Baldwin locks: rekeys, key copies and repairs
Baldwin is also the name of a lock maker. Its brass handlesets and deadbolts are on front doors all over Long Island, and the hardware is built to last, so it's usually worth keeping. When keys go missing or the lock starts acting up, it often needs a locksmith, not a new lock.
- Rekey: many Baldwin deadbolts and handlesets can be rekeyed so old keys stop working. Some newer models use a SmartKey cylinder that rekeys differently, and Alex checks the model first
- Key copies: most Baldwin house keys can be copied from a working key, at your door
- Repairs: a thumb latch that won't pull back, a deadbolt that drags, or a key that sticks
- Replacement: only if a part is worn out, with the price before any work
